Why a custom piece costs more than one off the shelf
A generic Labrador figurine at a gift shop was sculpted once and cast tens of thousands of times. Every copy after the first costs almost nothing to make, which is why a shelf figurine can sell for pocket change.
Yours gets sculpted once, for one animal, and then never again. Someone has to figure out how a Golden Retriever's chest feathering reads at 2.4 inches, how to keep a tuxedo cat's white bib crisp at that scale, and which of your Corgi's ear positions is the one you picture when you think of him. Then it's painted by hand in the colors your pet actually is — not the breed-standard colors, yours. Straight off the printer it's a gray blank; the hours after that are what you're paying for.
We also take only 50 commissions a month. That's not a marketing line — it's the honest ceiling on how many pieces a few people can paint properly.
What the rest of the market charges
When people ask what a custom dog or cat figurine should cost, the honest answer is that the range is wide: roughly thirty dollars at the low end, several hundred at the high end. The pattern is consistent — bigger costs more, and more hand-work costs more. Some of the cheapest listings skip the approval step altogether: they start from a stock model of the breed, approximate your pet's colors onto it, and you don't see the result until the box shows up. At the top end you're paying for larger scale and more hours of sculpting.
What changes your price — and what doesn't
Only two things move the number: size ($79 or $129) and Rush (+$19.99). That's the whole list.
No upcharge for a long-haired breed, a complicated coat, a mixed breed nobody can name, a senior dog, a puppy, or a kitten. Every piece gets the same preview, the same revisions, and the same painting time.
Is it worth it?
Depends on what you're comparing it to. Against a $20 gift, it's expensive. Against the toys and treats that quietly disappear over a year, it isn't — this is one object that sits on a shelf instead of getting chewed, lost, or worn out.
